The Country Club at Woodmore Signals a Renewed Era for its Membership as Multi-Year, $1.9 Million Golf Course Capital Investment Project Nears Completion

With a storied tradition and a commitment to Woodmore’s future, the Historic Arnold Palmer-designed course is delivering highly impactful upgrades

MITCHELLVILLE, Md. – (Sept. 30, 2026) – This winter, The Country Club at Woodmore will finish a multi-year, $1.9 million capital investment project, which is already delivering significant improvements to the historic layout, as part of a renewed commitment to its members.

Located near Washington, D.C., Woodmore offers an unmatched 18-hole golf experience for residents in Maryland and Northern Virginia. Designed by Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay, the present day golf course opened in 1981, as a par-72, 7,059-yard championship layout. While the storied history of the Country Club at Woodmore traces back more than a century, key new staff members have joined the team over the past two years, bringing a renewal of energy and spirit to the club.

“Woodmore isn’t trying to become something new,” said The Country Club at Woodmore General Manager Leah Cunningham. “We’re working to rekindle the storied traditions that a club with this history deserves, while elevating the member experience.”

Concert Golf Partners, which owns and operates Woodmore as part of the 40+ upscale private clubs in its portfolio nationwide, continues to back the course enrichment project. Concert makes consistent annual capital investment in its clubs. These upgrades are aimed at enhancing amenities, service levels and the overall member experience, while building and maintaining a thriving club environment.

“Our team is aligned and very intentional about where Woodmore is going,” added Cunningham. “The significant investment in the property is part of that, but so are the people, the standards, the course conditions, the member experience and how we are reintroducing Woodmore to the market. It’s a winning combination of a new team, a renewed commitment and a clear mission to preserve Woodmore’s history, while redefining its future.”

The recent infrastructure upgrades include irrigation enhancements that have beautified the course and its iconic ponds, while also enhancing water conservation and drainage. This is furthered by a new irrigation pump station scheduled for this winter; new golf course maintenance equipment; and a new bunker complex installed in 2024, specifically designed for member and guest enjoyment.

“As we kick off the fall golf season, an investment of this magnitude has already delivered outstanding course conditions at The Country Club at Woodmore,” said Concert Golf Partners Senior Vice President of Agronomy Danny Gwyn. “Concert Golf is proud of our commitment, as we soon complete this long-term capital project, which will deliver to the members and guests of Woodmore both increased playability and enjoyability for years to come.”

Along with golf, members enjoy three tennis courts, indoor and outdoor dining options in the Palmer Grille, swimming and a thriving, year-round social calendar.

Begun in 1923, as the nearby Beaver Dam Golf and Country Club, the original course was designed by noted golf architect Donald Ross. In 1941, the Club was bought and renamed Prince George’s Country Club. “Old P.G.” was host to a number of championship events, including the PGA Tour’s National Capital Open. The 1949 U.S. Women’s Open was won at the club by Louise Suggs, when she defeated Babe Didrikson Zaharias. A year later, they became founding members of the LPGA.

In 1979, the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission purchased the golf course and its facilities for use as a recreational area for the county. The Club then moved to its present location at the corner of Enterprise and Woodmore Roads in Mitchellville, Maryland.

Concert Golf, which is based near Orlando, added The Country Club at Woodmore to its portfolio in 2014. The only Arnold Palmer-designed golf course in Maryland, Woodmore is part of Concert’s recent commitment to join Audubon International for environmental conservation and eco-friendly practices.
